Quicken Says I Waste Money!

September 9th, 2008 | Posted in Frugal entertainment, Saving Money

Welcome back!

I saw this on another blog while dropping Entrecards. I think it was earnontheside, but as his site seems to be down, I can’t be sure. Let’s give him a little thank-you, regardless.

It’s part of the Quicken Spare Change Challenge - and claims that I waste 240 dollars monthly. Me. Frugal Fergie - my first reaction was a scoff - that’s a lot of money, and simply not accurate. But after visiting the link about how to reduce that number, perhaps it’s somewhat true. By Quicken’s standards, maybe I really do waste a couple of hundred dollars a month. It all depends on your definition of waste.

Personally, I don’t consider buying healthy, organic foods, or environmentally-friendly products a waste. There are a few things listed I could do, however - like shopping at thrift stores. It’s not that I buy myself clothes often at all, but when I do, they’re brand new and of good quality. Come on! I’m a woman, having a few pretty outfits won’t hurt, will it?

It’s all in the budget, and we’re doing fine, so I’m okay with the results. You hear that, Quicken?

Anyhow, it’s a neat little test with some remarkably good tips, so, tell me, how much do you waste monthly? Find out here.

    I always try to wait for the semiannual clearances (I get most of my clothes at EXPRESS… they have one clearance during the winter and one during the summer) to buy all of my clothes. I now have a plethora of items in my closet, but I bought all of them at rock-bottom prices.

    @Shan - Thanks! That’s a good idea that I never really considered.
