Back pain. Neck pain. Shoulder pain.

September 15th, 2008 | Posted in Personal thoughts

Welcome back!

Excuse me if the posts here are a little sporadic over the next week, as I have been suffering from some rather unpleasant muscle and joint pain, and sitting too long at the computer sure doesn’t help.

Basically after a month or two of not really exercising much, I started hitting the gym hard again - and now I am paying the price.

Hopefully, a few days of being really careful, receiving a lot of massages from my dear boyfriend, and a forming strong relationship with a heating pad will do the trick.

After dealing with back pain for years, I can tell you that dry heat can cause more problems than it is worth if you leave it on your back and shoulders any length of time. Try alternating heat and ice 15 minutes each or just ice 15 minutes off and on alternating. My specialist has made all his patient’s stop using dry heat all together. He says it cooks the skin.
HTH Hope you feel better soon. You might want to try Biofreeze or Sombra which work great to numb the areas for about 3-4 hours each. You can get them from local massage therapists or chiropractors carry this product.

Interesting I have been having neck and shoulder pain from too much keying of late. I think Kim’s advice is excellent.

@Kim - Wow, thank you. I had no idea about the dry heat, and to be honest, while it provides temporary relief, doesn’t seem to help much in fixing the problem.

I have taken your advice with the ice, and am actually feeling a lot better today.

@Lilly - I hope you feel better soon, too.
