Welcome back!

Frugal things to do with the kids - bake a pie

It’s weekend time again and Sally and Billy are bored! Check out the list below and keep them entertained without breaking the budget.

  • Bake an apple pie - Teach your children valuable skills and enjoy the results.
  • Camp out in the backyard - How about a camping adventure without the expense of fuel? Put up a tent in the backyard, and let the shadowpuppets commence.
  • Go for a nature hike - Keep yourself and your children healthy this weekend by getting some fresh air and exercise at a local park or reserve.
  • Spend an afternoon at the library - A passion for reading starts early and lasts a lifetime, plus - in the library, your kids will have to be quiet!
  • Play hopscotch - Chalk is cheap, and this old classic is tried and true fun.
  • Build sandcastles at the beach - Slap on the SPF and enjoy some vitamin D.
  • Try some new arts and crafts - Your kids will surprise you with their creativity after a trip to the scrapbooking shop.
  • Volunteer at the local SPCA - Check out the SPCA and have the family volunteer as dog walkers. This will provide great exercise for your not only your family, but a deserving canine as well.

One thing my children really love is going to the Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings. We do spend money on vegetables, but that’s money we would have had to spend anyway. An added benefit is my kids are more likely to eat the fruit and veg they picked out. Usually there is live music and free crafts for the kids. It’s a great time!

@Tracy - Any tip that is frugal and gets kids to eat their vegetables is valuable. Thanks. :)
