The Frugal Traveller - 7 Vacation saving tips
Welcome back!

It’s summer time and vacations are on the mind. We all like to relax and get away from the stresses of our daily lives, however you might find that relaxation comes easier if the worry of racking up your credit cards isn’t present. Here are some frugal vacation tips to help with just that:
- Go to a supermarket and buy snacks - One of the first things to do when arriving at a destination spot, is a quick trip to the local supermarket. Granola bars, a loaf of bread, some peanut butter, maybe a breakfast item or two (depending on the amenities your room comes with), and you’ll save a lot on small meals and snacks.
- Travel during non-peak times - If this is an option for you, it can mean a great deal. Hotels and other tourist supported businesses have to compete for your patronage at non-peak seasons, making the non-busy season desirable to the traveler on a budget.
- Consider a tourist bundle pack - If you plan to hit all the big tourist attractions an area has to offer, check online ahead of time, or with your hotel at time of arrival, to see if they offer a tourist package that would include all your admissions at a discount.
- Take advantage of last minute deals - If you can be a little flexible with dates, it can often mean a great deal, as prices are slashed by travel agencies trying to fill last minute vacancies. For best results, make travel arrangements a week or two before you say bon voyage.
- Frugal and adventurous? Try couchsurfing - While obviously not suitable for a family vacation, if you are young and brave, this might be a viable, and very frugal option. http://www.couchsurfing.org/
- Take some time to enjoy the earth - Nothing quite matches the beauty of mother nature. Be sure to check out the local parks, hiking trails and beaches for awe-inspiring, frugal fun.
- Airmiles anyone? - Make sure to swipe your Airmiles card at all merchants who offer the program. Miles really add up, and a free plane ticket can make any vacation a lot cheaper.

I also always do your Tip#1- not only is it cheaper, but grocery stores can be very interesting, both in terms of price and variety of products available.
Another idea. If you have a kitchen, consider checking to see if a meal assembly store exists in the area. This is a very economical way to feed the family without having to go out to dinner every night, while avoiding all the actual time required to prepare the meal.
@PennStJeff - Thanks. That’s an great idea that I’d like to try.
