A Frugal Halloween Tip
Welcome back!

A reader emailed me the other day with a little Halloween reminder that I thought I would pass on here: don’t forget to save the pumpkin seeds. Of course, when carving pumpkins it can be easy to forget about the seeds, as the kids are generally very excited (and making a huge mess!) However, it’s very easy to separate the seeds from the pumpkin goop and bake them for a great anytime snack. Just spread the seeds evenly on a baking sheet, add salt for flavor, and bake them for approximately thirty minutes at 325. Once the seeds are dry, they are ready to go!
Pumpkin seeds are a lot healthier than regular Halloween candy, and in my opinion they taste a lot better too!
Going Vegetarian This Week

I have found that choosing to prepare vegetarian meals is a great way to save money, as good quality healthy meats can be quite pricey, and (at least in my area) vegetables are always very affordable. My family actually likes to do one week a month where we eliminate meat from our diets entirely, choosing to prepare only vegetarian dishes. We do this not only for the cost saving effects but also because we are aware that meat production is harmful for to the environment. We try to buy local as much as possible, and just love to visit the farmer’s market on the weekend.
Some people may think that there aren’t many tasty vegetarian dishes, but in reality there is a huge variety and many are easy to prepare. Some of my family’s favorite veggie dishes are Mediterranean pasta with olive oil, roasted red pepper fajitas and quesadillas. All of these dishes are very easy to make and taste delicious! So, if you’re looking to save some money and eat healthy, you may want to try a vegetarian week yourself.
Planning A Frugal Weekend

I have to admit that in the past my husband and I have been guilty of saving money all week only to blow it on the weekends. Of course, we try not to, but it can be hard not to spend too much money when we’re out on the town having fun. However, this weekend will be different as we are planning ahead and have found some cheap local events to take part in.
On Saturday, we are going to enjoy a hayride and a haunted house with our nieces at a local farm, and then we are going to have a pot luck with some goods friends at our place. On Sunday we are heading to a pet expo which is very affordable (eight dollars), especially considering that I found a two for one coupon online. Knowing that the weekend will not blow our budget actually has me a lot more relaxed, which is an added benefit of planning things before hand… so perhaps this is something we should do more often.
