The Quarterly Trim Of My Expenses
Welcome back!
Generally I like to go over all of my various bank and credit card statements each month. However, approximately once a quarter I like to go back and do a detailed look at where my money is going, and see if there are ways that I can trim down my expenses.
For example, while I pay for cable television and internet and am reasonably happy with the price I pay for these services each month, I like to give the company a call once in awhile to see if they can offer me any discounts. Sometimes they will be running a promotion and there is a product or service I can try for free. Also, this helps to ensure that I am receiving their lowest possible rate. I do the same thing with my cellphone company, and doing so keeps me (and my husband) satisfied that we are getting a good deal. It’s easy to do, doesn’t take much time, and the savings can really add up!
Doing Some Modern Day Coupon Clipping
I bet a lot of you overlook the savings that can still come out of clipping coupons. I mean, it seems so old fashioned, right? But hey, fifty cents off is still fifty cents off. I know a lot of the newer generation wasn’t really brought up with learning about coupons, but they still are a great way to save money and the savings really do add up.
I spent yesterday clipping a bunch of coupons from the Sunday flyers and papers, and was happy to know that I’ll save at least a few dollars during my next grocery tip. The secret with clipping coupons is to only take the ones that are for items that you would normally buy (or comparable items), so that you aren’t actually spending more money buying unneeded items just to use a coupon.
Also, I recommend that before going to a store that you check their website first, as sometimes they feature coupons there that aren’t found anywhere else.
A Video Every Animal Lover Should Watch

I came across this very moving and disturbing video today, and encourage all of you who have a soft spot in your heart for pets to watch it. The video really highlights why we should support our local animal shelters by adopting pets rather than buying that cute puppy from a breeder. The amount of dogs euthanized every day in North America (and all over the world, no doubt) is unacceptable and at the very least we should all do our part by spaying and neutering our family pets.
