Some Frugal Birthday Fun

Well, you might as well know, yesterday was my birthday. Despite the joy of getting another year older, I had a remarkably nice time. In years past the festivities would include going out for a big restaurant dinner with friends and family, but, this time, in an effort to keep things frugal, we had a small backyard BBQ party at my parent’s house.
My folks were nice enough to supply most of the food, with most of the attendees bringing along a dish or wine, as well. And of course, my dear grandma’s potato and macroni salads were the hit of the party. Seriously, they may sound ordinary, but my grandmother is a culinary genius.
The weather was especially nice for late September - no rain, very sunny with a pleasant breeze. It was just the perfect atmosphere to enjoy my close friends and family with no stress.
#9 Frugal Tip Of The Day

This one is easy, and only needs to be done once a year or so. Call your cable company, wireless provider, internet provider, and anyone else who charges you for services on an automatic, regular basis and ask for a better deal. The results can be really surprising, and as these services tend to be billed each monthly, even a small savings can really add up over the course of a year.
Personally, I recently found out that I was not getting the best deal with my cable/internet provider, and as they are facing new competition in my area, I was able to compare rates and receive a much better deal - saving myself over thirty dollars monthly.
Quitting Soda Is Not Easy

As you may remember, a few weeks ago I made this post about my wish to quit soda. Basically, do to its price, high caloric value, amount of sugar, caffeine and just general health sabotaging effects, it’s something I’ve been trying to kick from my diet.
How’s it going? Well, sort of good, and sort of not good. I tried to quit cold turkey, and only made it four days. In the afternoon of day four I cracked and my boyfriend gave me “permission” to have a soda. Well, that started me on somewhat of a downward spiral, and for the subsequent few days I fell back into my old habits. After going back and forth a few times, I decided to try a new approach - allowing myself half a can of soda daily, until I feel ready to ween myself down to nothing.
Hopefully, I’ll be soda-free by the end of October.
